Carey Pinkowski built the LaSalle Banks Chicago Marathon to its current eminence among the world's great races.As exective director of the event since 1990, his leadership is considered instrumental in the event's success.

Additionally, Carey worked to secure broadcast of the marathon by NBC and ESPN, and recruited elite athletes to join the marathon field,

He was a four-time state champion in track and cross country as a prep runner in Indiana and a three-time NCAA All American in college.
